Spring and Summer Trends for 2009

Spring and Summer fashion usually involves daring yourself to bare a bit more than usual, and an old favorite usually resurfaces. The designers and trend setters didn't disappoint us once again. The midriff tops which expose the stomach area is here to stay through the summer, the ripped jean is back with a vengenance, and my favorite, one shouldered tops, bikinis and dresses have returned. What this all means is, ladies get back to the gym, or do a celebrity cleanse which leaves you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, and faint. You could also possibly fight the trend and create your own with lots of material wrapped around your upper body, some wonderful loose baggy cotton pants and thong sandals. We could call it Grecian Suburban Chic! Sounds terrible, so lets sort through what will work for us!
Lets start with the midriff top. Ladies, I believe this is one we all should leave alone. Unless of course you are under 21, a supermodel runway, or for some reason muffin top has not planted its blueberry appeal right at you lower back where your midriff top hits and accentuates the fatty tissue around the area. But if you are daring, please try and wear this look with some dignity. Maybe test the look out while mountain biking alone for a few hours where no one sees you from the time you leave the house until you hit the shower.
Butterflies are in this season. I would go for the butterfly that blends in nicely with the color palette on your shirt. Please do not wear butterflies on your jeans or encrusted with jewels. That look is for Hannah Montana or possibly the eight year old little girl living in the flat next door.
It seems fairy-tale princess look is in. I am not recommending this for every day. I am sure we might see Kate Winslet or Kate Beckinsdale somewhere at a premiere in a beautiful princess gown. As for us, you can pull this off if this is the first time you are getting married in a lovely church. If not, do not touch this look!
Fringed clothing is in for Spring/Summer 2009. I don't know about you, but I keep thinking about the Lone Ranger. I don't know why. Maybe I have been dying to say, "Hi ho Silver, away!" Anyway, I do love fringed dresses. Dresses with subtle fringe are sexy and feminine. It is a great look for summer. Not to mention, it is flattering on most figures. I don't recommend a shirt or vest with fringe, just stay with the dresses.
Grecian inspired clothing is back. This is one of my favorites. A Grecian dress, usually one shouldered, is fun to wear, and makes one feel very sexy. I recommend sticking with black, white, cream, or pastel colors. I believe the bold colors take away from the beauty of the dress. This is meant to be a romantic look. Keep it subtle and simple.
Jewelry is going in the statement making direction. It is all about big necklaces, bangles or a cocktail ring. We are seeing exotic stones and beading from different ethnic backgrounds. Keep it big and bold, and you will be with the in crowd. Remember, being in with the in crowd means, you are in with the likes of Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton. Maybe try one big piece at a time. Don't leave the house with an extra fifty pounds of jewelry on your body, and especially don't go to your doctor that day to get weighed for your check-up!
Ripped jeans are back! They are revealing more than ever. I love ripped jeans, but not the ones that reveal too much. I believe the jean with a small rip or two in the knee is quite sexy. Even a few well placed rips in the thigh area is hot. But, as with any fashion trend, revealing more is not always better. Stay away from rips in the buttocks area, at all costs, and I don't advise wearing any jeans that look like you found two pieces of denim and sewed them together to make a jean. You will be thrown out of the church or PTA meeting for sure.
The boyfriend jean is in. Katie Holmes has tried it, but didn't rock the look. I believe this look can be a hit, if you pair the jeans with a simple white tee and a black vest. A plain fitted tank with the jean shouts simplicity yet sexy. Your hair should be messy and hot at the same time. This look can be endless, if you wear it right. And your husband will attack you the minute he gets home. If you don't want to be any where near your husband, then wear the baggy jeans with a baggy sweat shirt and your hair in a low pony tail. This shouts stay away!
There are many looks to choose from this Spring and Summer. Find the best one for your body type, make it your own and wear what you love with confidence and ease.
