I am not a dietician, I am not a personal trainer, and I am not an expert in weight loss. What I am is a common sense gal who knows the formula for losing weight. It is quite easy, and I am going to let you in on the big secret at the end of this blog, after I go through what not to do to lose weight.
While sitting on the airplane two days ago I was reading one of the magazines with the skinny 90210 girls all over the pages claiming they eat a lot of food, and they are not anorexic. I really don't care if they have an eating disorder or not. Although, I do find it pathetic that women in this country starve themselves to be a certain size in order to keep their job. What I did find disturbing was the "cleanse" diet that all the stars commented on that they have tried. Thank God, a few of them admitted that they couldn't stay on the diet because they were weak, exhausted, light headed and had headaches. One very intelligent star did say you are starving, you are tired, but the results are worth it a smaller dress size. That is gross and reckless.
Do not do anything that is going to cause you to feel lightheaded, nauseous and send you running to bed with exhaustion. It is plain stupid, and the weight will come back ten fold the minute you return to normal human being eating habits and get off the diet for the kooky and in my opinion, attention seeking individuals.
Do not decide you must exercise three hours a day, eat 13 wheat things, and a grapefruit. This doesn't work either. Nor does eating only protein, or only carbs, or only a certain combination of food after 7 pm. Sure, you will see results in the beginning, but eventually, you have to return to normal eating and eventually your body will stabolize itself once again, your metabolism will be slower, and you will gain the weight back, and possibly an extra pound or two.
I have been the same size my whole life except during pregnancy and the first year of college. I don't have a miracle plan, if I did you would know me for sure, for you would have purchased my product. What I do know is weight loss is simple.
The first step is move your body. I don't care if it is walking, roller blading, running, swimming, kick boxing, or jumping on a trampoline. You need to move, plain and simple. The key is doing an exercise you like. I hate treadmills or any cardio machine at a gym. I run outside with my dogs four times a week. Yes, you need to move at least four times a week. Three is ok, but four is so much better for you and weight loss. There has to be one activity that you like, find it and do it. After you get used to your routine, try and incorporate weights into your schedule. More on that later. Let's just start out with moving for now!
Secondly, you have to eat. Starving yourself won't work. This is easy, at every meal incorporate some protein, carbs and fat. That's it. Eat a normal size portion. Use your fist to guage how big your piece of meat should be and your carbs. Fat should come in the form of an avocado, some peanut butter and not whip cream.
Know your serving sizes. I can tell you that three oreos equals 160 calories and 7 grams of fat. I can tell you this because I have to have a small dessert after every meal. It might be an oreo after every meal, which equals the 160 calories or it might be a popsicle or a half a cup of ice-cream. Losing weight is not rocket scientist stuff, this is something we all know but very few of us want to do. Why do we not want to do it? It is like everything else in life these days, we want the easy way out. We want a magic pill. We want someone else to do it for us.
Stop complaining about your weight and do what is necessary to change it, eat less and move your body. There are no short cuts. I have five kids, two dogs, three cats, and a very busy life. But I move my body and watch my intake every single day. If I can you can.

This was a really well written post. I have been hospitalized several times for anorexia and still struggle with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and putting some personal thoughts into a rather informative publication.
