Is Kenyon Martin a Punk?

The Dallas Mavericks lost at the last second to the Denver Nuggets due to a missed call by the ref. This pushed the Mavs down 0-3 out of a best of seven series. Tensions were running high and Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, didn't disappoint us with his usual antics. However, I am not going to discuss Mark Cuban at the moment. That will be another blog. I am here to discuss Kenyon Martin. Ultimately, I will write several pieces on NBA players and their conduct. Professional sports is being taken over by hostile, out of control young men, that have no right receiving the contracts they receive. Players should have to prove themselves on the court and off the court before being handed millions of dollars.
The game was over, it ended on a bad call, and Mark Cuban was incensed. Typically, if you are a visiting player and your team wins like the Nuggets won, get off the court and celebrate in your locker room. Well, Kenyon Martin hung around the court, and tantalized Dallas for a bit. When Mark Cuban was leaving the court he told Kenyon Martin's mother, "Your son is a punk."
I am not here to dispute whether or not he should have said that to Martin's mother. Of course he shouldn't have. Tell Martin he is a punk, but not his mother. I am here to clue you into why Mark Cuban called Kenyon Martin a punk, and to show you the quality of players we pay to watch in the NBA.
Alonzo Mourning was one of the most respected players in the NBA. He fought a kidney disease with strength, heart and was a wonderful role model for children. He is still alive, just retired. When Martin was a teammate with Mourning Martin mocked Alonzo's battle with his kidney disease. He later admitted his mistake and apologized. How big of him.
Soon Martin's injuries and off court antics started to get the best of him and his game. He was suspended in during the playoffs in 2006 for "conduct detrimental to the team."
During a game in 2006 against the Chicago Bulls a fan yelled a ridiculous comment to Martin. Instead of being a mature NBA player that is making millions Martin told one his bodyguards to confront the fan and shut him up. His friend told the heckler, "Shut your mouth before we take you outside and beat your (expletive)!" He also screamed at a fan in Denver named Don Miller, who was at the game with his teenage son. He called Don "a fat (expletive) white boy." Martin was fined $15,000 for that incident.
On January 1, 2007 the cornerback for the Denver Broncos, Darrent Williams, was murdered after attending Martin's birthday party. Martin was the host. It seems the limo that Williams was riding in was pelted with bullets. Good news, his 2008 bash was incident free! No killings or rapes that we know of.
He was also once caught in a heated and profanity-laced locker room argument with the local sports radio person. How nice, go for an interview and get berated by this loser.
I am concerned that we are so worried about Mark Cuban's comment. Truth hurts, and the NBA should be looking into their personnel a little deeper. That won't happen, the commissioner and owners are too worried about money.
Here is the real concern. Kenyon Martin was asked what he is going to do about Mark Cuban's comment to his mother. He said, "I'm gonna take care of it." I hope that taking care of it doesn't mean using his posse, guns or knives!
